Keep Amarillo Trashy announces community lake pollution events

Local non-profit group Keep Amarillo Trashy has announced they are working with the city government to host a series of lake pollution events this summer.

Keep Amarillo Trashy founder Claudia Smyth said the goal is to make Amarillo a more honest city.

“Sometimes visitors come to our parks and see a clean environment. We all know that isn’t representative of the real Amarillo,” Smyth told The Amarillo Rag. “We don’t want to give people a false impression that this is a safe place to raise a family.”

Residents are encouraged to bring their most hazardous trash and to dump it into their nearest lakes. Signage will be posted by city officials noting which locations are most in need of specific pollutants.

If you have further questions, reach out to either Keep Amarillo Trashy or the city’s Parks & Degradation Department.
